Ambassador Oleh Shamshur addressed participants of the roundtable “The Kyiv Energy Summit: Prospects and Implications for the US, the EU, and Eurasia” at Hudson Institute’s Center for Eurasian Policy On June 25, Ambassador Oleh Shamshur addressed participants of the roundtable “The Kyiv Energy Summit: Prospects and Implications for the US, the EU, and Eurasia” at Hudson Institute’s Center for Eurasian Policy. Ambassador’s speech opened the event visited by diplomats, international energy policy experts, representatives of political and business community. O.Shamshur gave a brief analysis for the basic outcomes of the Summit, its political and practical implications for Eurasia energy security system. The participants were also informed about the position of President of Ukraine Viktor Yuschenko regarding the achievements of the Summit, particularly the signing of Joint Statement on the Caspian-Black Sea-Baltic Energy Transit Space and Joint Statement of the Presidents of Azerbaijan, Georgia, Lithuania, Poland and Ukraine Regarding the Euro-Asian Oil Transportation Corridor. The US panelists representing National Security Council and Department of Energy gave positive estimates to The Kyiv Energy Security Summit as one of the first successful political attempts to unify the regional efforts on the ground of common interests and take practical steps to strengthen Eurasia Energy Security. They characterized in a positive manner reforms that have been carried out in Ukrainian energy sector. At the same time in there opinion, Ukraine has is a big potential that can be reached particularly in the sphere of hydrocarbons upstream production onshore and offshore, energy efficiency and energy transit. Achieving the abovementioned goals together with continuation of structural reforms in energy sector would attract foreign investors and strengthen energy security of Ukraine. |
