Ambassador of Ukraine conferred the National Award of Ukraine to Under-Secretary of State

On May 14, 2008, an award ceremony was held at the Embassy of Ukraine to honor Under-Secretary of State for Democracy and Global Affairs Ms. Paula Dobriansky. Representatives from the US Administration, State Department, US Congress and Ukrainian American community applauded Ms. Dobriansky as she received the Order “For Merit” from Ambassador of Ukraine Oleh Shamshur.

In his remarks Ambassador Shamshur underscored the leading role of the Under-Secretary in bringing about effective bilateral co-operation with Ukraine in healthcare system and in Chornobyl disaster relief projects. She was at the forefront of the initiative to organize rehabilitation of Chornobyl-affected children from Ukraine in Florida.

Having Ukrainian roots, Ms. Dobriansky visited modern Ukraine and also promoted its opportunities in the United States. Taking into account the above mentioned, the President of Ukraine decided to award Paula Dobriansky “For considerable personal contribution to the promotion of historical and cultural heritage of Ukraine in the world and its positive international image”.
