President meets with Managing Director of the World Bank

President Victor Yushchenko met today with Managing Director of the World Bank, Mrs. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.

During the meeting parties discussed topical points of the World Bank’s activity in Ukraine as well as modern tendencies in global economy and their impact on our state.

President Yushchenko said that Ukraine appreciates greatly the support of the Bank, which it has been rendering to Ukraine for last 16 years through multiple projects. He also expressed hope for further deepening of cooperation between the sides especially within the scope of the Strategy of cooperation with Ukraine for 2008-2011, which had been adopted by the Board of Directors of the Bank in 2007.

Besides Victor Yushchenko and Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala discussed specific projects, namely cooperation between Ukraine and the World Bank within the framework of drafting free trade zone agreement with the EU, prospects of elaboration of a strategy of bringing Ukrainian agricultural products to world markets by a joint working group consisting of economic specialists from Ukraine and the Bank, and possibilities of World Bank’s participation in construction of a hydro-electric plant at Dniester river.
