The 75th Anniversary of the Holodomor of 1932-1933 in Ukraine is extensively honoured in London. A special liturgy "The Requiem to Those Starved to Death" was jointly performed by Ukrainian National Academic Choral Capella "Dumka"and National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine in one of the famous and oldest concert halls of London - Cadogan Hall. The concert was attended by several hundred people including members of the British Parliament, representatives of British and local Ukrainian communities as well as diplomatic corps. For the first time the event of such scale was held in the UK and received wide publicity in the British society. At the same day an exhibition devoted to the 1932 - 1933 Holodomor in Ukraine had been opened at the Ukrainian Embassy in the UK to present proofs of the artificial hunger and its consequences. A round-table meeting on Holodomor was also held in London with participation of representatives of Ukrainian Government, the British committee for Holodomor, Ukrainian communities and historians. The same events are planned to be held in 15 countries of Europe and North America later this year. |
