On August 8, 2008, in the Chaoyang Park at Beijing with the participation of the Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Mr. Ivan Vasyunyk, the Ambassador of Ukraine to the People’s Republic of China Mr. Sergiy Kamyshev, diplomats of the Embassy, representatives of the Ukrainian community in Beijing as well as political, public and artistic circles of China, a solemn ceremony of inauguration of the bust of the great Ukrainian poet T.G.Shevchenko took place. This is the first monument to the Great Kobzar not only in China but the entire Asian-Pacific region.

In the framework of the ceremony, Mr. I.Vasyunyk presented the author of the bust of T.G.Shevchenko, famous Chinese sculptor Yuang Sikung with the III Degree Order of Merit.

The Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine also opened an exhibition of pictures on the Olympic subject by Ukrainian and Chinese children and presented diplomas to the winners of the competition for the best “child’s work”.
