On August 7, 2008, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the Republic of Moldova Mr. Sergiy Pyrozhkov visited the places of compact settlement of ethnic Ukrainians in the north of the country who have suffered in the result of flood most of all.

In the villages of Volynets and Kalarashivka jointly with the Bălţi City Mayor Mr. V.Panchuk and the President of the Ukrainian Union “Zapovit” Mr. M.Kryzhanivskyy, Mr. S.Pyrozhkov passed the victims material assistance collected by the Ukrainian community and the Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Moldova.

The Ambassador discussed with the victims and local authority the situation which arose in the inhabited localities in connection with flood and minutely informed of the problems which occurred in the West of Ukraine in connection with strong rains and the measures taken by the Ukrainian authority in order to overcome the consequences of the disaster.

Mr. S.Pyrozhkov emphasized that the Ukrainian and Moldavian competent authorities constantly exchange rapid information for minimization of negative consequences of the disaster.
