On July 2, 2008, visiting Pnompenh, the Ambassador of Ukraine to the Kingdom of Cambodia pluralistically Mr. Pavlo Sultanskyy met with the Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia Mr. Ouch Borith.
The interlocutors discussed the state and ways of the bilateral cooperation development, assured one another of the willingness to assist businessmen of Ukraine and Cambodia in establishment of direct contacts and implementation of joint projects. Special attention was paid to the prospects for educational cooperation which Cambodia is especially interested in.
The Cambodian diplomat touched upon preparation of the country for the parliamentary elections which will be held on July 27, 2008, and today determine the entire scope of social and political life of the country. Cambodia welcomes the role played by the international election observers, in particular those who arrived under the European Union warrant. He named combating poverty, administrative and judicial reforms as well as reduction and modernization of the Armed Forces of Cambodia the key task of the authority and told about the achievements in these areas.
In response to the information of the Ambassador on the position of Ukraine and the actions taken in order to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Holodomor of 1932 – 1933, the Secretary of State assured of especially attentive attitude of the Cambodian party towards this problem and informed of work of the International Tribunal for Khmer Rouge.
The Ambassador of Ukraine thanked the Secretary of State for the constant willingness to cooperation, in particular for the support of Ukraine at the elections to the UN Human Rights Council.
