On July 14, 2007 in the framework of the work visit to Afghanistan, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk held negotiations with Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Rangin Dadfar Spanta and in the extended composition with the participation of the delegations of the two countries.
The Head of the foreign policy office of Ukraine underlined the importance of development of bilateral cooperation between the countries and noted that Ukraine is interested in participation in implementation of reconstruction projects of Afghanistan, rebuilding and construction of bridges, roads, irrigation and building of water-supply systems and hydroelectric power station based on mutual interest and benefit.
In the course of the meeting, it was agreed to intensify cooperation in humanitarian sphere. In this context, Mr. Yatsenyuk informed of the willingness of Ukraine to increase quota for Afghani students interested in studies in Ukraine and to extend the sphere of available educational courses, particularly, due to organization of instruction in civil, diplomatic, military and educational majors. In case of appeal from Afghanistan, the Ukrainian party will be willing to forward special training missions consisting of military and civil engineers to this country.
During the negotiations, the parties also discussed cooperation in energy sphere. Mr. Yatsenyuk and Mr. Spanta agreed to elaboration of the Action Plan in energy sector for the purpose of implementation of joint bilateral projects and examination of the possibility of output of natural resources, particularly, in gas and oil sectors.
The Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine informed his Afghani colleague of the intention to open a division of the Embassy of Ukraine in Kabul till the end of this year.
The interlocutors also discussed preparation for visit of the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan to Ukraine. |
