Statement of the MFA of Ukraine on the North Korea’s Nuclear Test

Ukraine as a country, which voluntarily abandoned the third in the world nuclear potential and is consistent with principles of non-proliferation, with deep concern learnt about the fact of the Democratic Peoples' Republic of Korea nuclear testing.

The North Korea’s actions aggravate the situation in the region, complicate the prospects to resume the six-lateral negotiations, lead to the worsening of the inter-Korean dialogue and further world isolation of Pyongyang.

Ukraine condemns this reckless step of Pyongyang and calls on the Democratic Peoples' Republic of Korea to realize its responsibility, immediately cease its nuclear and missile programmes that could lead to the negative consequences, first of all for the North Korea itself.   

We call on all interested states to make their utmost to resume the six-lateral negotiations and the government of the North Korea – to impose moratorium on its nuclear arms testing and other nuclear explosions and to renew dialogue with the International Atomic Energy Agency.

Ukraine will welcome any constructed steps with the purpose to normalize the situation as soon as possible and to renew the negotiation process on settling the conflict on the Korean peninsula.
