On December 26, 2008 Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Volodymyr Ogryzko met Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania Vygaudas Ušackas within the framework of his official visit to Ukraine, which has become the first foreign visit of the newly appointed Head of the Lithuanian foreign office.

During the negotiations the ministers discussed bilateral political and economic relations, cooperation between the two countries in the context of European and Euro-Atlantic integration. Minister V.Ušackas stressed that Lithuania’s new Government is firmly committed to support Ukraine's European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations.

The Joint Press Statement of the Ministers for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and Lithuania was adopted under the results of the meeting.

Before the beginning of negotiations at the MFA Mr. Ušackas paid his tribute to the memory of millions of victims of the Holodomor (Great Famine) of 1932-1933 in Ukraine at the monument placed in Mykhailivska Square.
