On August 8, 2008, the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Mr. Kostyantyn Yeliseyev met with the Charge d’Affaires ad interim of Georgia to Ukraine Mr. Zurab Dvalishvili in connection with exacerbation of the situation in South Ossetia (Georgia).

Mr. Kostyantyn Yeliseyev brought to the notice of the Georgian party the Statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine on the situation in South Ossetia (Georgia). He paid special attention to the need for immediate cease-fire as an integral precondition for start of negotiations for settlement of the situation.

The Representative of Georgia informed of the present state in the confrontation area and highly assessed the willingness of Ukraine to contribute to the cause of sooner settlement of the situation in the region.
