On July 25, 2008, the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Mr. V.Ogryzko in the framework of the work visit to Italy met with the Mayor of Naples Ms. Rosa Jervolino and the Prefect of Naples Mr. Alessandro Pansa.

Mr. V.Ogryzko and the local authority discussed issues which face the Ukrainian community in Italy and first of all in Naples and emphasized the need for introduction of devices for ensuring appropriate protection of rights and interests of our compatriots in Italy. In particular, the matter concerned support of the initiative of the Ukrainian community to open a Ukrainian Sunday school in Naples.

In the course of the meetings, the Italian officials showed satisfaction with the fact that the Ukrainian community in Italy easily integrated into the Italian society and tries not to violate the legislation of the country.

The parties also agreed in opinion on the need for intensification of interregional level contacts.

The Minister V.Ogryzko briefly informed the local officials of one of the tragic pages in the history of the Ukrainian people, the Holodomor of 1932 – 1933 in Ukraine. The importance of support of the international community in condemnation of the Holodomor on Ukraine by official Naples was emphasized.
