In the framework of the work visit to Brussels on July 4, 2008, the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Mr. Kostyantyn Yeliseyev met with the Deputy Minister for EU Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belgium Mr. Xavier Dumoulin.

The parties discussed the state and prospects of the Ukrainian – Belgian cooperation for the purpose of ensuring the European integration course of Ukraine. Special attention was paid to preparation for the Twelfth Ukrainian – EU Summit in September 2008 in France.

The parties exchanged views on the course of the negotiations between Ukraine and EU on the new enhanced agreement and the free trade area. In connection with this, the parties agreed that the new agreement should be an innovative and ambitious document.

Mr. K.Yeliseyev and Mr. X.Dumoulin discussed the ways of the bilateral interaction improvement in immigration and visa areas. In response to the facts of violation of the Agreement on Visa Procedure Simplification with Ukraine by some EU member countries set forth by Ukraine, Mr. X.Dumoulin promised to examine the situation and to take measures in order not to admit such violations in the future.
