On July 2, 2008, the National Council (Slovak Republic) ratified the Agreement on Local Border Traffic between Ukraine and the Slovak Republic which was signed in Bratislava on May 30, 2008, by the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Mr. V.S.Ogryzko and the Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Slovak Republic Mr. J.Kubiš.

The Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Mr. V.S.Ogryzko thanked his Slovak colleague Mr. J.Kubiš for ratification of the Agreement and emphasized its importance for extension of opportunities of interpersonal contacts and simplification of the conditions for their fulfillment. 

Ratification of the Agreement on Local Border Traffic by the parliament of the Slovak Republic may be an example for other participants of the negotiation process with Ukraine on elaboration of the local border traffic procedure.
