On July 2, 2008, in the framework of the work visit to Brussels, the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Mr. Kostyantyn Yeliseyev met with the Director General of European Commission Directorate General for External Relations Mr. Eneko Landaburu.

Mr. K.Yeliseyev and Mr. E.Landaburu discussed the course of the negotiations between Ukraine and EU on the new enhanced agreement a regular round of which will be held on July 16, 2008, in Brussels, as well as the state and prospects of the parties’ cooperation in migration and visa area. Mr. K.Yeliseyev attracted attention of the EC representative to some facts of violation of the Agreement on Visa Procedure Simplification with Ukraine by Consulates of the EU member states and urged to take immediate measures in order to remove them. He also showed hope that the European Commission would contribute to sooner enforcement and start of implementation of the Agreements on Minor Border Traffic of Ukraine with Poland and Slovakia.

Special attention was paid to rendering assistance in organization and hosting in Ukraine of the final part of the European Football Championship 2012 by the European Commission.

The parties discussed the internal political situation in Ukraine and the EU internal situation in the context of the negative results of the referendum on ratification of the EU Reform Treaty in Ireland.

The parties also exchanged views on the state of preparation of the parties for the Twelfth Ukraine – EU Summit which will be held on September 9, 2008, in France.
