On July 1, 2008, the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Mr. Kostyantyn Yeliseyev received the Ambassador of Portugal to Ukraine Mr. Jose Viegas.

During the meeting, the results of the official visit of the President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko to Portugal held on June 23 – 24, 2008, were discussed. The parties agreed that the said visit should attach a powerful impact to the bilateral cooperation of the parties in implementation of the course of Ukraine to European and Euro-Atlantic integration. In this context, Mr. K.Yeliseyev showed hope of support of conclusion of the ambitious new enhanced agreement between Ukraine and EU by Portugal.

Special attention was paid to the state of the Ukrainian – Portuguese cooperation in migration and visa areas. Mr. K.Yeliseyev attracted attention of the Ambassador to the facts of improper implementation of the Agreement on Visa Procedure Simplification with Ukraine by consular offices of some European Union member countries and urged the EU party to comply with the assumed obligations for improvement of interpersonal contacts and non-admission of creation of new visa borders.
