On June 25, 2008, in the framework of the official visit of the President of the Republic of Latvia Mr. V.Zatlers to Ukraine, the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Mr. Volodymyr Ogryzko held negotiations with the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Latvia Mr. Māris Riekstiņš.

In the course of the negotiations, the Minister V.Ogryzko emphasized the interest of Ukraine in further political dialogue intensification with Latvia.

The head of the foreign policy office of Ukraine thanked Mr. M. Riekstiņš for support of the intentions of Ukraine to integrate into NATO and EU by the Latvian party.

In particular, the importance of the Latvian assistance in giving Ukraine the clear signal of the outlook for its EU membership and obtaining a positive decision on invitation of Ukraine to the NATO Membership Action Plan at the meeting of the Ministers for Foreign Affairs of the Alliance member countries in December 2008 in Brussels were emphasized.

In the course of the negotiations, special attention was paid to the initiatives of Ukraine on honouring the victims of the Holodomor of 1932 – 1933 in international organizations.
