For the purpose of support of intensive interaction between the North-Atlantic Alliance member countries and Ukraine after the NATO Bucharest Summit held on April 15 – 16, 2008, the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Mr. O.M.Kupchyshyn made a work visit to the Netherlands.

 

In the course of his meetings with the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands Mr. E.Kronenburg, heads of the field departments concerned in European and Transatlantic security cooperation, the parties exchanged views on the results of the NATO Bucharest Summit, discussed the practical cooperation intensification lines between Ukraine and NATO in the nearest future implementation of which would enable our state to obtain a positive assessment from the Alliance member states.

 

The Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs Mr. O.M.Kupchyshyn informed the interlocutors of the practical steps taken by Ukraine for the purpose of implementation of the necessary reforms, improvement of internal coordination and strengthening of institutional capabilities of the state institutions in the context of rapprochement of Ukraine to the NATO membership.

 

Special emphasis was placed on the measures aimed at raise of awareness of the Ukrainian society of modern activity of the Organization and ensuring positive dynamics of support of rapprochement of Ukraine with the Alliance.

 

The high officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands positively regarded the serious disposition of Ukraine in obtaining the invitation to the Membership Action Plan and showed hope of success of purposeful efforts of the Ukrainian authority on this way.
