On May 14 – 15, 2008, the Acting First Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Mr. Yuriy Kostenko made a visit to Vienna (Republic of Austria).

In Vienna, Mr. Y.Kostenko met with the Chairperson of the National Council (parliament) of Austria Mrs. Barbara Prammer. During the conversation, the interlocutors noted the high level interparliamentary contacts and discussed possible dates of visit of the Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Mr. A.Yatsenyuk to Austria. Mrs. B.Prammer informed the Ukrainian delegation of arrival to Ukraine of group of the Austrian deputies scheduled for 2009.

In the course of the meeting, Mr. Y.Kostenko informed the Austrian party of the efforts taken by Ukraine for recognition of the Holodomor of 1932 – 1933 as a genocide act against the Ukrainian people and noted that 14 states of the world had already adopted the respective documents which condemned the Holodomor and 5 other countries recognized it as a tragedy of the Ukrainian people. The Head of the delegation of Ukraine informed Mrs. B.Prammer of the events for commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the Holodomor of 1932 – 1933 which will be held in autumn 2008 in Ukraine and abroad and invited Mrs. B.Prammer to take part in the artistic action “Requiem for the Starved” which will be held in Austria in October 2008.
