On May 7, 2008, in Beijing, political consultations at the level of the Deputy Ministers for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and the People’s Republic of China were held under the chairmanship of the Acting First Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Mr. Y.Kostenko and the Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China (in the capacity of the Deputy Minister) Mr. Li Hui.

The participants of the meeting minutely discussed the Ukrainian – Chinese relations and paid special attention to bilateral cooperation intensification in political area, first of all the top level dialogue as well as to search of specific ways of realization of the existent cooperation potential in commercial-economic, scientific-technical and humanitarian areas.

The parties also exchanged views on the issues associated with participation of Ukraine in XXIX Summer Olympic Games which will be held in China in August 2008.

The same day, Mr. Y.Kostenko met the First Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China Mr. Wang Yi.

The participants of the meeting highly assessed the present state of the Ukrainian – Chinese relations as well as the achieved results of the bilateral cooperation in the promising areas.

The Chinese party was delivered a message from the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Mr. V.Ogryzko addressed to the Minister for Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China Mr. Yang Jiechi.
