On May 6, 2008, the fourth round of the Ukrainian – Turkish political consultations at the level of the Deputy Ministers for Foreign Affairs took place.

 

The Ukrainian delegation was headed by the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Mr. Kostyantyn Yeliseyev and the Turkish one by the Deputy Secretary of State Mr. Unal Çeviköz.

 

In the course of the negotiations, the parties discussed a wide range of issues of the bilateral cooperation between Ukraine and Turkey and the measures aimed at further intensification of the Ukrainian – Turkish dialogue. The high level political contact schedule for 2008 was adjusted. The Turkish party confirmed the willingness of the Prime Minister Mr. R.Erdoğan, the Chairman of the Great National Assembly Mr. K.Toptan and the Minister for foreign Affairs Mr. A.Babacan to visit Ukraine just this year.

 

The parties demonstrated satisfaction with the trade volume increase dynamics between the two countries and agreed to intensify their efforts for further diversification of its structure. In this context, the importance of holding of a regular session of the Ukrainian – Turkish Intergovernmental Commission on Commercial-Economic Cooperation was emphasized.

 

The parties paid special attention to the bilateral cooperation development in the fields of energy, transportation, science and technologies as well as in the area of interregional contacts.

 

It was agreed to extend the contractual-legal base between Ukraine and Turkey later on, and the importance of improvement of the present immigration procedure was noted.

 

The parties exchanged views on some urgent issues of regional and international cooperation and discussed the ways of interaction strengthening on the way of European and Euro-Atlantic integration.
