On November 10 in Bucharest in the framework of official visit of the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine to Romania the negotiations of the official delegations of Ukraine and Romania led by the Heads of foreign offices of two countries took place.  

In the course of the negotiations there were discussed, in particular, the stage of development of Ukraine-Romania bilateral cooperation, ways of implementation of agreements, reached at the highest level, the sides’ approaches as to the launching of activity of a joint bilateral Ukraine-Romania Commission under the leadership of the presidents of two countries, its tasks and structure. 

The sides agreed as to the necessity to concentrate attention on the intensification of political-security, trade-economic, investment, humanitarian cooperation between Ukraine and Romania as well as on the increasing of the volume of bilateral trade.

The sides also agreed as to the need to accelerate Ukraine-Romania trans-border and regional cooperation, their interaction in the sphere of environment protection etc.

In the course of the meeting the foreign departments’ heads of Ukraine and Romania discussed ways of two countries interaction in the Black Sea region with a purpose to spread democracy, stability and security, in particular in the framework of regional associations. The interlocutors negotiated the most important aspects of Ukraine-Romania interaction in the sphere of the European and Euro-Atlantic integration. From the Romania side there was stressed the unchangeable stand as regards the support of our state in its relations with the EU and NATO.

Special attention was paid to the issue of ensuring the rights and needs of Ukrainian minority in Romania and Romanian minority in Ukraine.

In the course of the negotiations the Ministers for Foreign Relations of Ukraine and Romania signed the plan of consultations between the MFA of Ukraine and the MFA of Romania for the year of 2006, as well as joint letters to the leadership of the Council of Europe and the OSCE as regards the monitoring of the situation of Ukrainian minority in Romania and Romanian minority in Ukraine with participation of observers of the mentioned organizations.

The representatives of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the Ministry of Education and Investigations of Romania signed the protocol on cooperation in the sphere of education for the years of 2005-2006 and 2006-2007.
