Activities of the Consular Service Department

Department of the Consular Service is a structural division of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry.

This department concentrates its activities on safeguarding the national interests in the sphere of consular affairs; coordinates the work of the Ukrainian consular posts abroad protecting constitutional rights of the Ukrainian citizens and nation’s legal entities beyond the borders of Ukraine; fulfils consular activities in accordance with the current Ukrainian legislation, international legal acts and controls their implementation.

Consular Service Department keeps under the guidance the activities of Ukraine’s consular posts abroad and the country’s honorary consuls.

Beyond the borders of the state there function 114 Ukraine’s consular posts today. Among them 80 consular departments make part of the Ukrainian foreign diplomatic missions, 28 are united under the General Consulate, 4 compose the sections of the diplomatic representative bodies, 2 forms consular agency, one more – consular post and the last 4 are grouped under the consulate title.

Besides, Ukraine has 62 consular agencies in 86 foreign countries that are headed by the country’s honorary consuls.

Ukraine’s Foreign Office Consular Service Department exercises its activities in full accord with the nation’s Constitution, Ukraine’s legislature, decrees of the President of Ukraine and the Cabinet of Ministers, Ukraine’s Consular Charter and other regulatory documents.

Consular Service department consists of such divisions as:

• analysis and planning;
• visa policy;
• passport issues;
• citizenship issues;
• international adoption and Ukrainian children adopted by the foreigners rights’ protection;
• consular and legal issues;
• consular protection of the physical and legal entities;
• legalization issues;
• rapid reaction.
