Activities of Directorate General For Consular Service

Directorate General for Consular Service is a structural division of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

Directorate General for Consular Service concentrates its activities on protecting the national interests in the sphere of consular affairs; coordinates the work of the Ukrainian consular posts protecting constitutional rights of the Ukrainian citizens and legal entities abroad; fulfils consular activities in accordance with the current Ukrainian legislation, international legal acts and controls their implementation.

Directorate General for Consular Service provides guidance for the activities of the Ukrainian consular posts abroad and the country’s honorary consuls.

Beyond the borders of our state there function 118 Ukrainian consular posts today. Among them 82 consular divisions make part of the Ukrainian foreign diplomatic missions, 29 are united under the General Consulates, 6 are grouped under the consulate title, 1 forms consular agency.

Besides, Ukraine has 104 consular posts in 70 foreign countries that are headed by the honorary consuls of Ukraine.

Directorate General for Consular Service exercises its activities in full accord with the Constitution of Ukraine, the Ukrainian legislation, the decrees of the President of Ukraine and the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, the Consular Charter of Ukraine and other regulatory documents.

Directorate General for Consular Service consists of such divisions and sections as:

• analysis and planning;
• citizenship issues;
• consular and legal issues;
• consular protection of the physical and legal entities;
• international adoption and Ukrainian children adopted by the foreigners rights’ protection;
• maintenance of State Registry of Voters;
• obtaining documents and documents authentication;
• operative work;
• passport issues;
• visa policy;
• cooperation with the law-enforcement bodies;
• transporters rights’ protection.
