Increasing significance of general engineering operation requires using very diverse equipment. Alongside with the time-proven vehicle types, the market offers new and improved special engineering vehicles distinct in high performance, manoeuvre capability and reliability.

Ukraine's largest producers of various engineering, building, and other defence products are: Atek JSC, Boreks JSC, Borispol Plant Strela, Drogobych Crane Vehicle Plant, Kyiv Mechanic Plant JSC, Odessa Holding Company JSC Krayan, NKMZ (Novokramatorsk Machine-Building Plant) CJSC, and Yuzhny Machine-Building Plant PA.

An unconditional leader among them is Stroydormash, Kyiv Engineer Vehicles Plant engaged in production, commerce, research, and development. Stroydormash's core products include high-performance earth digging machines, dual use vehicles; a system of 6 special earth digging machines for repair of main pipelines; machinery for construction and production of building materials. At the present time, over 70% of Stroydormash's products are defence-oriented.

Stroydormash produces earth digging machines special purpose (vehicle for extinguishing of rock-fall, entrenching machines, heavy artillery tractors), mattress chains, and welded structural steel up to 10 m long. In the recent years, Stroydormash has started production of world's unprecedented system Kurs, which provides repair and replacement of insulation on pipelines 530–1220 mm in diameter in Category I-IV Soils. Kurs' efficiency 7–8 times exceeds that of traditional repair vehicles. Kurs passed government tests and is used in repair of pipelines (without their operation interruption) in Russia, Republic of Belarus, and Ukraine.

All defence products (PZM-2, BAT-2 and other) undergo military acceptance tests, quality is guaranteed by the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine. The machines produced by Stroydormash were broadly used in mitigation of Chernobyl NPP disaster in 1986. IMR and BAT-2 are equipped with sealed radiation-protected cabin. Reliability of all machines produced by Stroydormash complies with the requirements put to battlefield vehicles; all machines are known good in climatic conditions of Europe, Middle Asia, the Near East, and Africa.

Joint Stock Company HC Luganskteplovoz is Ukraine's largest company more known by production of railway machinery. At the same time, one of components of the company is defence products manufacture for the Armed Forces, in the first place amphibious transport engineer vehicles to provide crossing water barriers.

Contrivance is another important part of engineering warfare. Ukraine developed Kontrast system, which makes military equipment actually invisible for radars. The radar absorbent cover is based on the principles of simultaneous absorption, directed reflection and diffusion of electromagnetic waves. By the key positions, Ukrainian stealth cover of military equipment outperforms similar systems provided by Barracuda (Sweden) and Brishford (United Kingdom).

Given the intensive participation in peace-keeping operations, gains particular importance Ukrainian defence industry's operations pertinent to development and production of state-of-the-art military engineering vehicles, where Ukraine has state-of-the-art competitive potential.
