Address by the President of Ukraine to world Ukrainians

Dear members of the Ukrainian community,

Brothers and Sisters,

Ukraine, the world Ukrainians and all the people of good will honor millions of victims of the Holodomor of 1932-33 – the most tragic page in the history of Ukraine and one of the biggest humanitarian catastrophes in the times of humanity.

We consider it as the matter of national honor and our sacred responsibility to our own people and before God to tell the entire world the truth about the Holodomor as a genocide deliberately organized by the communist Stalin regime with the purpose to bleed Ukraine and undermine its aspirations for freedom and independence.

Following the extensive research and information campaign we have succeeded in bringing the facts of the Holodomor back into the Ukrainian and the world history. Ever more nations and international organizations recognize it as an act of genocide and condemn it as a crime of totalitarianism.

It is to the great merit of the world Ukrainians that we have accomplished this task. I am deeply grateful to you for your perseverant actions and commitment to this important national cause, for the Holodomor Torch Relay that has shown the truth to many peoples across the world.

The work that we have commenced shall be continued as we are guided by our personal and national conscience. The truth is the only way to moral healing and to a future with dignity.

I am confident that together we shall prevail to restore the historical truth and justice.

Let this year be marked in every Ukrainian house across the globe with the candle of remembrance, which unites us into one family.

Glory to Ukraine!

Victor YUSHCHENKO
