“Based on the Ukrainian President’s Decree as of January 15, 2010 in response to the request of the United Nations the Government of Ukraine on January 27, 2010 made a decision to donate 4.1 million Ukrainian hryvnya (USD 500,000) as a humanitarian assistance to the Republic of Haiti”, - stated Ihor Ostash, Ambassador of Ukraine to Canada, answering the journalists’ questions on Tuesday, February 2, 2010.

 

The Ambassador also informed that following the devastating earthquake that struck the Republic of Haiti on January 12, 2010 President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko on behalf of the Ukrainian people expressed the sincerest condolences to President of the Republic of Haiti Rene Garcia Preval, and to the families and close friends of those who suffered from the catastrophe.

 

As the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Ukraine has informed the teams of Ukrainian helicopters further fulfill their duties as part of the United Nations Mission in Haiti.
