On March 14, 2009 Ambassador of Ukraine to Canada Ihor Ostash visited the Exhibit Booth for promotion of awareness on the Holodomor and other important Ukrainian Canadian issues presented by the League of Ukrainian Canadians and Ucrainica Research Institute at the Manning Networking Conference.

The League of Ukrainian Canadians (LUC) and Ucrainica Research Institute (Ucrainica) were the only two Ukrainian Canadian organizations participating in the Manning Networking Conference from March 12 to March 14, 2009, in Ottawa. The Manning Centre for Building Democracy was organized by the Manning Networking Conference & Exhibition 2009 to enrich networking and learning opportunities.

The LUC’s and Ucrainica’s participation in this Conference and Exhibition undoubtedly broadened the spectrum of knowledge for all the participants about issues most significant to Ukrainian Canadians. LUC and Ucrainica learned how to work closely with Canadian NGOs in order to represent more effectively Ukrainian Canadian community interests in Canada. “This was an opportunity for us to become more visible among other Canadian organizations that will come to the capital, but it also allowed us to begin raising issues at a new level, issues that are at the heart of the Ukrainian community” says Volodymyr Paslavskyi, Executive Director of the League of Ukrainian Canadians.

While visiting the Exhibition The Ambassador also met with Preston Manning, President and CEO of Manning Centre, Nicolas Gafiuk, Managing director of Manning Centre and Doug Elniski, MLA for Edmonton-Calder and discussed with them the possibilities of promotion the awareness among the Canadian society about crimes of communist tyranny especially Holodomor / of 1932-33 in Ukraine.
