On June 12, 2009 Ambassador of Ukraine to Canada Ihor Ostash participated at the inaugural Paul Yuzyk Award for Multiculturalism ceremony. The Paul Yuzyk Award for Multiculturalism commemorates the late Senator Yuzyk’s pioneering legacy in the areas of multiculturalism, diversity, and pluralism. Senator Yuzyk, who was a member of the Senate of Canada from February 1963 to July 1986, played a key role in the development and implementation of Canada’s multiculturalism policy.

On June 4, 2009 the ceremony of signing a Memorandum on Cooperation between Odesa Sea Trade Port (Ukraine) and Port of Halifax (Canada) took place in the Embassy of Ukraine in Canada. On behalf of the Port of Halifax the Memorandum was signed be the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Port Karen Oldfield.

On May 22, 2009 the art exhibit titled “Echoes of Trypillia” was opened at the Embassy of Ukraine in Canada. The exhibit was developed by the Ukrainian Association of Visual Artists of Canada (USOM).

On April 26, 2009 Their Excellencies the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Governor General of Canada, and Jean-Daniel Lafond visited the Dzherelo Rehabilitation Centre for Children with Cerebral Palsy in Lviv. The Governor General received a warm welcome by kids attending the centre who suffer from cerebral palsy.
