Visa to Ukraine

 

VISA REQUIREMENTS

 

GENERAL PROVISIONS

Before travelling in Ukraine, the citizens of other countries are required to apply for a Ukrainian entry visa.

To obtain a visa, the applicant must submit:

·   A valid passport (re-entry permit or refugee travel document) - provided that any of the mentioned travel documents are valid at least one month before the visa you apply for expires and that there is at least one free page for a visa to be included. Copies of those documents are not accepted.

·   An application form (in Acrobat Reader) printed or written in block letters (for download form press “application form”).

·   One recent passport-size photograph.

·   If you submit a child's passport, it should be accompanied by a joint notarized request of both parents.

 

VISA TYPES

Based on the purpose of entry, a business, tourist, private and other types of visa are granted.

 

Since only one type of visa is issued per entry, the primary purpose of entry should be stated in the application form.

Along with the documents listed above, an applicant must submit the following documents (hereinafter referred to as "the supporting documents") in support of the application for:

 

A) Business, scientific, culture, sport visas - an invitation (legible fax version is acceptable while scanned e-mail copies are not acceptable) from a legal entity duly registered in Ukraine, typed on its letterhead containing its official address and telephone number, signed by an authorized officer (other than the applicant) of the entity, bearing its seal and accompanied, when applicable, by a clear copy of its valid Certificate of Registration in Ukraine. The invitation must detail the purpose and, if necessary, the number of visits, exact travel dates, places to be visited and provide basic passport data of the invitee.

 

B) Tourist Visa - a letter of invitation from a Ukrainian or Australian tourist agency with tour details or hotel booking confirmation.

 

C) Private Visa:

·   for a home stay visit - only original invitation issued in the applicant's name by a local Immigration Authorities of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine where the sponsor permanently resides;

·   for medical treatment an official notification from the medical establishment providing treatment to the applicant;

 

D) Visa for Religious Mission - an original letter of invitation from a Ukrainian religious organization for a foreign missionary must be submitted along with a written confirmation under the signature and seal of a responsible official of the State Committee of Ukraine on Religious Matters or of the department on religious matters of a regional or city administration depending on where the sponsoring organization is registered.

 

E) Visa for Humanitarian Mission-for individuals providing humanitarian aid, a visa is issued on the basis of a letter of support from the Committee on Humanitarian Aid of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine. In case an applicant provides the consular office with a letter from the Committee on Humanitarian Aid of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, visa will be issued free of charge.

 

F) Employment Visa (including lecturing) - an original work permit (DOZVIL NA PRATSEVLASHTUVANNIA) issued to the applicant by the Ministry of Labour of Ukraine and obtained for him/her in advance by the employer in Ukraine.

 

IMPORTANT: Those wishing to enter Ukraine for PERMANENT RESIDENCE should call the Consulate for further clarification before submitting an application.

 

G) Transit Visa - a valid visa to the country of destination or other documents which confirm entry into that country or a confirmed one way or round trip ticket for travel from the point of entry into Ukraine to the point of entry into the next country from Ukraine. This visa authorizes the applicant to stay in Ukraine for only 5 days per each entry and is not required for a non-stop flight over Ukraine.

 

H) Applicants of Ukrainian background may apply for a P-2 type Ukrainian visa for the duration of up to 5 years (some are subject to a telephone interview by the Consular office of the Embassy of Ukraine). Applicants should submit the following documents:

1.  Applicant's written request - a written statement addressed to the name of the Embassy of Ukraine in Australia, which includes an applicant’s name and surname, his address of residency in Australia (home or business), history of his Ukrainian heritage/origin with indication of the exact year of immigration from Ukraine and purpose of his next visit to Ukraine, date and signature;

2 Certified copies of the documents that evidence the Ukrainian origin;

3.  If the last name on applicant's passport and birth certificate (other documents) are different, a copy of the document of change of name is required.

 

IMPORTANT: Please be informed that Ukraine does not accept dual citizenship. In this regard, the Embassy of Ukraine does not issue visas for the Ukrainian citizens who hold also Australian passports.

 

Those applying for a visa longer than 3 months need to present an HIV test certificate.

 

No visa is required for the citizens of the European Union Member States, Switzerland, US, Canada, Japan, Norway, Mongolia travelling to Ukraine for tourism, private matters or business.

They are allowed to stay in Ukraine 90 days. These rules do not apply if planned for a long-term stay in Ukraine or immigration.

 

No visas are required for citizen of the Commonwealth of Independent States (except Turkmenistan)

 

No letters of invitation are necessary for the citizens of Turkey for obtaining business, tourist, private and cultural/sports visas.

 

Applicants holding passports issued by the following countries must allow at least 12 business days for their visa application to be processed: Angola, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Ghana, India, Jordan, Iraq, Iran, Democratic Republic of Congo, China, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Nigeria, Pakistan, Syria, Somali, Sri-Lanka.

Also, the citizens of the above mentioned countries must additionally submit the following documents:

·   Valid Australian or New Zealand Permanent or Temporary Resident Visa, employment authorization etc.

·   Original letter of invitation (no fax or e-mail copies are accepted) made through a Ukrainian Visa and Registration Office (for all types of visa).

 

Note: The Consular Office has full authority to request more documents than submitted by the applicant.

 

VISA DURATION

a) single entry visa: from 1 to 3 months

or double entries visa: from 1 to 6 months

b) multiple entries visa : from 3 to 12 months

c) transit visa: 5 days (time sufficient to cross Ukraine by train, ship, automobile or other means of transportation)

d) the duration of a P-2 type visa can vary from 3 months to 5 years (by the decision of the Consul).

The Consular Office accepts only bank cheques or money orders made out for the Embassy of Ukraine in Australia or by a bank deposit to the account No. 10415582, BSB 062900, at the Commonwealth Bank of Australia.

Cash, personal cheques and credit card payments are not accepted.

 

Please be advised that the charge for every kind of visa is not refundable.

 

POSTAGE

 

The application package can be delivered to the Consular Office of the Embassy of Ukraine in person on Monday-Friday from 9:30 am till 12:30 pm or submitted by mail.

For a return service, please provide the Consular Office with a self-addressed prepaid Express Mail or Registered Post envelopes. If providing FedEx, TNT, DHL or other courier envelopes please make sure that they are prepaid and have an account number.

Please be advised that the Consular Office does not accept any other kind of mail and does not bear responsibility for postal service. The Consular Office is not responsible for lost, damaged, misdirected, or late-delivered mail.

Should the prepaid return envelopes be not submitted, the Embassy will send the documents back to the applicants with regular post).

Any application received on Saturday, Sunday and official Australian or Ukrainian holidays (January 1 & 7, March 8, May 1-2 & 9, June 6, June 28, August 24) will be processed starting from the next business day.

Please be advised that the Consular office does not provide any information on visa status.

Be advised that Consular Office of the Embassy of Ukraine does not provide 1 (one) business day visa processing.

It is advisable to apply for a visa some three/four weeks prior to your prospective departure date. Due to the heavy fall of requests during the spring and summer months longer processing time (up to 12 days) may be required.

 

ADJUSTMENT TO A VISA

After a visa is received, it should be checked for accuracy and returned to the Consular Office, if necessary, for corrections. The Consular Office shall not be responsible for any discrepancies, which were not brought to its attention. If there is a necessity to adjust a visa, it may be done as long as it is permitted by the supporting document.

 

VISA RELEASING

When an application is submitted in person, a numbered receipt is issued to a submitter. This receipt should be presented at the Consular Office when the visa is claimed. The travel document will be released to the submitter of the receipt unless its owner or other submitter has provided other written notarized instructions at the time of the pick up. If the receipt is lost, the travel document will be released to its holder or at the written notarized request of the holder to his/her appointee. If the travel document is to be mailed back, a prepaid self-addressed return envelope is required from the submitter.

 

REGISTRATION IN UKRAINE

From July 1, 2001 no registration in Ukraine is required for foreigners who stay less than 3 months. If staying in Ukraine longer than 3 months, they are required to register their stay with a local Immigration Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
